State Road 13Indiana State Road 13 goes down the center of the state connecting a group of cities and areas in northern Indiana with the area just east of Indianapolis. While bypassing Anderson and Marion (with connections via SR 37 and SR 15), it serves a few areas that are population centers. It passes through the lake area and heavily Amish areas of northern Indiana.Much of the road has been modernized and is maintained well although little of it is multi-lane. At one time it extended all the way up to Michigan, sharing the last three-qurarters of a mile with US 131. Sometime after 2000 it was "scaled back" to the Indiana Toll Road. Until the early 1940s, SR 13 went as far south as downtown Indianapolis mainly following modern-day SR 37 from a point northeast of Noblesville. SR 13A: Lake Wawasee causes Indiana 13 to swerve west, causing some interesting corrections upon meeting with US 6 and US 33 over the years. One of these corrections, a route on the east side of Lake Wawasee, became known as SR 13A. Some roads today list the designation of Indiana 13 on the post, though the road has been long decommissioned. |
