State Road 26SR 26 was route north of Indianapolis that used to fully cross the state, but recently the portion through Lafayette was decommissioned. SR 26 seems to exist more in the shadows of various US routes through parts of the state (US 52 west of Lafayette, US 35/SR 22 between Kokomo and I-69), but it is major primarily because it connects Lafayette and Kokomo where it is part of the National Highway System. West of Lafayette it is narrow and desolate, but east of Upland it is busier, but still mainly narrow and in need of modernization. One of its claims to fame is passing through Fairmount, the home town of James Dean. |
