State Road 53State road 53 originally went down all the way to Montmorenci until US 231 was commissioned thorugh Indiana in 1954. The current portion goes from downtown Gary south through Merrillville and the eastern edge of Crown Point following Broadway the entire distance. Most of the road is four and five lanes with only the southern three miles remaining two lanes. SR 53 is also known as the Carolyn Brown Mosby Memorial Highway.Orginally, SR 53 ran west of SR 55 in Lake County, but their routes were swapped in the 1930s. |
