US 6In Illinois, US 6 goes from Moline at the Mississippi River to Lansing on the Indiana line in the south suburbs of Chicago. It has existed in Illinois since 1932. The route goes from Bishop, California to Provincetown, Massachusetts passing through 14 states.In Illinois, US 6 begins in Moline multiplexing with I-74 and ends in Lansing on a multiplex with I-80 and I-94 (Kingery Expressway). Despite this, US 6 is mostly surface road and closely parallels I-80. Thus its importance is diminished, but because, it goes through several Illinois River communities and the south and southwest suburbs of Chicago so it cannot be described as a minor route. |
